This pick-and-roll play from the top creates a penetration lane for an easy scoring opportunity along with a high-low option if the pick-and-roll is defended well.
Players set as shown in the diagram. Play can be run to either side.
As O1 dribbles to the right wing, O4 cuts to the ballside corner to screen for O2 and O5 slides over to replace O4.
O1 swings the basketball over to O2, who is now at the top. O5 steps over to run the pick-and-roll with O2.
O2 uses the screen to penetrate left as O5 rolls off the screen to the rim.
O2 looks for shot, a pass to O5, or possibly even a kickout to O3.
O4 is coming up from corner to replace O2 at the top.
If O2 cannot penetrate off the pick-and-roll, he will reverse the basketball to O4 who will look for the high-low pass to O5.
O4 may even swing one more pass over to O1 who will look to O5 posting up.
